L.J. Slavin

L.J. Slavin is an award winning multi-instrumentalist well versed in a wide variety of styles. Some of the instruments L.J. plays include flute, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica, pennywhistle, banjo, guitar, autoharp, jew's harp, dulcimer and musical saw.

He has performed in almost every venue imaginable including festivals, concert halls, schools, pubs and much more. The fall of 2015 finds L.J. working with Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago, performing in the premier production of "Treasure Island," directed by Tony award winner Mary Zimmerman. In the spring of 2012, he was musical director and lead musician in the world premiere Steppenwolf Theatre production of "The March."  L.J.'s theatrical career has taken him to Broadway where he performed in a Tony Award winning production (Grapes of Wrath, best play, 1990), as well as Equity house theatres across the country and England. Some of the theatre companies he has worked with include Steppenwolf, Goodman, Northlight, Chicago Shakespeare, Denver Center, Virginia Stage, Goodspeed, Cincinnati Playhouse, LaJolla Playhouse, the National Theatre of London, and more.

L.J. has done two tours of the British Isles and England with his Bluegrass band and is currently playing in a wide variety of musical projects listed elsewhere on this website. He also produced and hosted "Down Home Music Time" for National Public Radio.

 His jingle work includes spots for Kelloggs, McDonald's, Sears, State Farm, IL lottery and more. L.J. also presents school assemblies and concerts for senior facilities. Details are on the "School / Senior shows" page of this website.

"Sounds for Real Music and Entertainment" was founded and is run by L.J. and Laurie Slavin. This agency provides quality musical entertainment for corporate and private events as well as festivals, benefits, etc. A wide variety of musicians are available; from soloists to full bands. Styles include Rock, Irish, Latin, Bluegrass, Country, Folk and Classical. We also provide family entertainment including clowns, face painters, magicians, D.J.'s, etc. Why "Sounds for Real?" In this age of impersonal sampled and synthesized music, we're proud to provide REAL musicians playing REAL instruments.
